With #ICON2019 fast approaching, here’s an update on the major things happening with our 27th event! While some final details are still TBC, here’s what we can tell you so far, leading with our first major announcement:

#ICON2019 will be located in the Convention Centre: after some prolonged negotiations, ICON will be moving into the Convention Centre area inside the Emperors Palace complex! #ICON2019 will be running across multiple rooms throughout the complex, providing space to each gaming event as well as a separate exhibitor stall space. Being in the Convention Centre complex also means ICON will be exposed to a greater amount of foot traffic, as we sit in the main walkways between three Emperors Palace hotels and the Emporium food court area.

Tickets: now that our location has been settled, ticket sales are the next order of business and will be going live later this week. Day passes (Sat, Sun & Mon) are R125 and full weekend passes R250.

Merchandise and Accommodation: when ticket sales go online, you’ll also be able to pre-order ICON t-shirts and hoodies, as well as add an accommodation bundle to your order. Emperors Palace have again provided a discount to stays at the Peermont Metcourt hotel, and you’ll be able to choose from 2, 3, 4 or FIVE night packages (best for those travelling to the event and want to stay for everything), for single or double occupancy. We will not be pre-selling ICON Mugs but rest assured they will be available for sale at the event.

Nightly Events: the ever popular ICON Comedy Night returns with another star-studded line-up of your favourite geek comedians, hosted by the incomparable Vittorio Leonardi, and will be running on the SATURDAY evening. Sunday evening sees the ICON Geek Quiz Night, hosted by the ‘Geek of All Trades’ podcast team, and will be available for teams of up to ten members. Registration for the event will be done online, and will open later this week so start assembling your crew!

And finally, ICON will now be declaring Friday night as LARP Night! LARP stands for Live Action Role Playing, and will take place in a dedicated venue on the Friday evening – the specifics of the LARP are still to be finalised, but you should start planning now for a full weekend of gaming fun!
